January 3rd of 2026!!
When it came to the famed Madison Doctrine for Latin America, it was a Paper Tiger. But the Trump Doctrine obviously means business. Today -- on January 3rd in 2026 -- a precision military operation in Caracas captured Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and he was quickly shipped to New York where he will be tried for drug smuggling and other crimes.
Now, of course, it remains to be seen what the demise of Maduro in Venezuela means for the Cuban Revolution's 66-year leadership in Cuba. Obviously, the answer is easy. The Trump Doctrine, especially when it comes to Venezuela and Cuba, is in the hands of U. S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the Miami-born Cuban-American who has vehemently hated Fidel Castro's Cuban Revolution all of his adult life.
In other words, historians can now begin to write that Fidel Castro's Cuban Revolution -- which defeated dictator Fulgencio Batista on the first day of January in 1959 -- ruled Cuba for a few days more than 66 years. What happened in Venezuela on January 3rd in 2025 very much had ties to the Cuban Revolution.
