April 22nd in 2026!!
For many years Jamaica has been Cuba's best friend and closest neighbor in the Caribbean and in the world. As headlines in late April in 2026 herald the eminent United States regime change in Cuba, now even Jamaica has bowed to strong pressure from the U. S. to stop supporting Cuba. And that "cave in" has deeply saddened the already sad existence of everyday Cubans on the Caribbean's largest island-nation.
For many years little countries such as Jamaica and big countries such as Italy have thankfully benefited from Cuba's large stable of skilled doctors, all the while trying to defy the ever-tightening seven-decade-old U. S. economic blockade against Cuba that has existed since 1962. The blockade is designed to overthrow Cuba's revolutionary goverment but that has not yet happened although it has recently been sharply tightened by U. S. President Donald Trump and U. S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Born in Miami's Little Havana Florida neighborhood 54 years ago, Marco Rubio has spent his entire adult life trying to overthrow the Cuban Revolution. Groomed as a Florida politician by Little Havana counter revolutionaries such as Havana-born Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Havana-born Carlos Gimenez, etc., Rubio has always pointed a serious finger towards Cuba -- first in the Florida legislature, then in the U. S. Senate, and now as the ultra-powerful U. S. Secretary of State.
In addition to his awesome power as Secretary of State, Marco Rubio also administers the massice United States Agency for International Development, which dishes out massive dollars to selected small nations. That, perhaps, adds to Rubio's massive influence on little nations -- including Cuba's best friend, Jamaica.
The photo above sort of defines U. S.-Cuban Relations since 1959, which was the year the Cuban Revolution overthrew the US/Mafia-backed Batista dictatorship. In this photo U. S. President Donald Trump is doing what every U. S. President since 1959 has done, which is to sign laws that benefit Little Havana Cubans in Miami but are massively harmful to Cubans in Cuba. You may note that, in the signing ceremony shown above, Little Havana superstar Marco Rubio is in the center as he peers over President Donald Trump's shoulders. Whatever was signed into law above, it surely helped Little Havana Cubans and hurt Cubans in Cuba.
I have lived a long life as a pro-democracy American. But I am ashamed that neither the U. S. government nor the U. S. media tells the truth about the two eternal U. S. laws shown above that have, therefore, been shoved down the throats of Americans for decades. The Cuba EMBARGO has shamefully existed since 1962 for the stated purpose, according to declassified U. S. documents, to "starve, deprive, and make miserable" Cubans on the island to induce them to rise up and overthrow their revolutionary goverment. The HELMS-BURTON LAW has existed since 1996 to drastically hurt Cubans on the island and to favor and enrich Cubans in Miami. Yes, the EMBARGO has existed since 1962 and the HELMS-BURTON Law has existed since 1996. And that means that generations of Americans have had neither the courage nor the decency to utter a peep about what this says about their country.
