Right after daybreak in Havana on the first day of January in 1959, Cuban rebels and citizens {see above} were frantically trying to capture "Batista's henchmen" before they could flee to nearby Miami or to Dictator Rafael Trujillo's Dominican Republic. This was in the first heady hours right after Fidel Castro's Cuban Revolution had shocked the world by overthrowing the Mafia-back/US-backed Batista dictatorsiip. From that first day of 1959 till mid-October in 2025, there have been mammoth daily efforts to overthrow the Cuban Revolution, but it is an ongoing work in progress!!
Starting in 1959 there were an ungodly number of assassination attempts on Fidel Castro's life, at least forty serious attempts while some say there were over 600.
But Fidel Castro died peacefully in 2016 at age 90.
Below is a YouTube 6-minute report on key attempts to kill him:
One famous CIA attempt to overthrow/kill Fidel Castro was the massive Bay of Pigs air-land-sea military attack in April of 1961. The young U. S. president, John Kennedy, was persuaded to fund and carry out the mission because veteran CIA operatives assured him that...Fidel Castro would flee to his getaway airplane the moment he heard bombs falling on Camp Columbia in Havana. But Castro did not have a getaway airplane and the moment he heard the U. S. bombs dropping he raced from Havana to the Bay of Pigs where he believed the land attack would commence.
The U.S.'s powerful CIA, which surely was responsible for many of the anti-Castro assassination attempts, also famously spent millions of dollars training anti-Castro groups headquartered in Florida for the air-land-sea military attack on Castro, which took place in April of 1961 and is known to history as "The Bay of Pigs." Within about 70 hours Fidel Castro's rebels were victorious at "The Bay of Pigs" and captured hundreds of prisoners. Later the U. S. offered to pay Castro so he would return the presoners to Miami. He agreed but said he didn't want to be paid in dollars but with fifty million dollars worth of...Gerber Baby Food for Cuba's children. Kennedy agreed. So the famous swap was completed.
So, yes, Fidel Castro in 1961 not only won the military batttle at The Bay of Pigs, he persuaded U. S. President John Kennedy to send Cuba about $50 million of Gerber BABY Foods in exchange for Cuba returning The Bay of Pigs prisoners back to Florida. With no choice, Kennedy approved Castro's demand.
But after Fidel Castro's Cuban Revolution had defeated the Mafia-backed/US-backed Batista dictatorship in 1959, Castro also survived many Florida-CIA assassination attempts, and then in 1961 Castro also won the Florida-CIA-US air/land/sea attack on Cuba at the Bay of Pigs. But the efforts to eliminate Castro and his Revolution were just starting from 1959 to 1961 and in 1962 the U. S. began a massive economic EMBARGO that intended to "starve, deprive, and make miserable" the Cuban people to induce them to rise up and overthrow Castro and his Revolution. Well...almost seven decades later in November of 2025 the EMBARGO is tighter and stronger than ever and, even a decade after Fidel Castro died of old age at 90 in 2016, his Revolution still rules Cuba and the EMBARGO still continues to sttarve, deprive, and make miserable Cubans on the island but it still has not caused the desired political change in Cuba.
Meanwhile, in November-2025 worldwide Tourism Experts such as TTW report on the fact that Cuba remains the only small nation that has ever existed so long under the yoke of an economic EMBARGO imposed by a much-larger nation, in this case the world superpower United States. Specifically, the U. S. EMBARGO against Cuba is designed to drastically restrict Tourism to the island-nation that is just a few miles south of the tourist-mecca of Florida. TTW points out that Cuba is blessed with two of the world's Top Five Beaches, tourism lures that neither Florida nor anyone else has. Below are those two beaches in Cuba directly below Florida.
The two Cuban beaches in 2025 that TTW says are among the Top Five Beaches in the World are Pilar Beach and Varadero Beach. Of course, the U. S. EMBARGO against Cuba drastically reduces Cuba's ability to profit from having such world-class tourist attractions as...Pilar Beach and Varadero Beach.
It is well known that Cuba's famed Varadero Beach has been voted "The World's Best Beach" by international tourists. It is on Cuba's northern coast an hour's drive southeast of Havana and also just a few miles from Key West, Florida. The U. S. EMBARGO on Cuba is strong enough to dissuade not only American tourists but also foreign tourists from visiting Varadero Beach.
Of course, back in the 1950s when both the Mafia and the United States backed the Batista dictatorship in Cuba, the U. S. was literally saturated with ads like the one shown above designed to flood Varadero and other Cuban attactions with endless tourists!! That was when the Mafia and giant U. S. companies were making tons of money in Batista's Cuba because of tourism!!!
But in November of 2025 the famed Varadero Beach and other tourist-beloved areas of Cuba are virtual wastelands. Americans are not freely allowed to visit Cuba as tourists and other would-be tourists in other nations also bow to the powerful influence of the superpower United States.
The TTW update below details Cuba's tourism problems.
Since January of 2025 Miami-born Cuban-American Marco Rubio has been the ultra-powerful U. S. Secretary of State. He hates the Revolutionary Cuba.
