Today is December 15th in 2024 and the quotation above is from Fidel Castro on December 15th in 1959. He was finishing the FIRST FULL YEAR of his Revolutionary Rule in Cuba. Translated to Engish, he said: "The Revolution feels secure because it is advancing with a firm step, and is supported by the vigorous arms of your peasants and our workers." Please note that today -- December 15th in 2024 -- that Fidel Castro's words from December 15th in 1959 actually remained "secure" and mostly accurate for 65 years. But today those 65 YEARS are finally ending because...the Cuban Revolution's rule is not secure.
In mid-December in 2024 the two British international news giants -- Reuters and BBC -- are the best sources for news from inside Cuba. And, for sure, the news is extremely dire now and likely will get worse starting on January 20th in 2025 when two prime counter-revolutionary Americans -- incoming U. S. President Donald Trump and incoming Secretary of State Marco Rubio -- will be the top decision-makers expected to orchestrate the demise of revolutionary rule in Cuba where Fidel Castro or his legacy have been in power since 1959. Cubans fear Trump's second 4-year term as U. S. President, especially with his choice of Rubio as his Secretary of State. Rubio since 2011 has bee a powerful U. S. Senator from the Little Havana area of Miami and he has led the charge in trying to overthrow Revolutionary Cuba. As Secretary of State starting on January 20th, it is widely believed Rubio will have unrestricted power to finally bring about the end of Revolutionary rule in Cuba. Below are updated excerpts about the situation by Reuters from inside Cuba.
Illustrated by the two photos and paragraphs shown above, the powerful Reuters News reports worldwide on "the two months of hours-long blackouts now have a new problem" for everyday Cubans, meaning the drastic fuel shortages that now limit their movements. Along with food and medical shortages, such hardships have inspired over a million Cubans to recently leave the island, especially for the U. S. or Spain.
For many years Will Grant has been the BBC's superb international journalist specializing on Latin America, especially Cuba. In December of 2024 Will Grant's latest BBC News update from Cuba reviews the island's dire concerns about Donald Trump's second 4-year term as President of the United States that will start next month on January 20th, 2025. Exceprts from that key article are listed below:
As the BBC's Will Grant has reported many times, after 62 years the U. S. Economic Embargo of Cuba has finally helped totally devastate the island's wherewithal to provide necessities for its people -- including fuel, food, medicine, etc. After all, as proved by U. S. documents, the purpose of the Embargo in 1962 was to starve, deprive, and make miserable the Cubans on the island to induce them to rise up and overthrow their revolutionary government. By December of 2024 and surely later in January of 2025, the fulfillment of that purpose is at hand.
The photo and sentences above by the BBC's Will Grant quote Cuban expert and former diplomat Jesus Arboleya" as saying, "The Cuban Revolution is now facing its 'harest moment." Back in the 1950s wild and unchecked tourism made millions of dollars for the Batista leaders, the Mafia leaders, and for the powerful U. S. companies that, with kickbacks to Batista, saturated the island from Havana in the West to Santiago de Cuba on the Western end of the island. Since 1962 the U. S. EMBARGO and other restrictions have devastated Cuban's economy, as planned. Will Grant's latest BBC article in mid-December of 2024 explains all that.
The Cuban Revolution shocked the world on January 1st in 1959 by overthrowing the US-backed and Mafia-backed Batista dictatorship. But even more shocking has been the 65-year longevity of the Cuban Revolution from 1959 till the end of 2024. In all those decades since 1959 the Cuban Revolution has faced daily attempts by the superpower United States to again dominate the Caribbean's largest island, including especially via the EMBARG but also such historic events such as the air-land-sea BAY OF PIGS military attack, etc., etc.
Now starting on January 20th in 2025 U. S Senator Marco Rubio, newly elected President Donald Trump's new Secretary of State, will finally have the power to abolish the Cuban Revoluion. Rubio's powerful Cuban-American colleagues in Miami will rejoice wildly much louder than they have ever shouted since January of 1959, even louder than they did in Miami's Little Havana section on October 25th in 2016 when Fidel Castro died at age 90 in Havana.
As shown above, Miami is not far from Havana.
