U. S. Fake News Mocks Starving Cubans

Cuba's First Lady Reacts!

This is Lis Cuesta and her husband Miguel Diaz-Canel...the First Lady and President of Cuba.

As First Lady, Lis Cuesta is well-liked by Cubans on the island and she takes her role in the limelight seriously. Above she was hosting a First Lady from a friendly foreign country, Spain's Queen Letizia.
For sure, Lis Cuesta deeply loves her husband, Miguel Diaz-Canel. Very active on social media, Lis posted this photo on Facebook with the reminder to everyone that Miguel is the "dictator of my heart." She, as she has done before, was mocking what she calls the "Fake News Cuban journalists in Miami who mock Cubans on island about their getting the U. S. government to starve Cuban families in Cuba while making Cubans in Miami very rich, much like Cubans in Havana and U. S. businessmen got rich when the U. S. and the Mafia supported the Batista dictatorship till the Cuban Revolution in 1959 chased them back to Miami." Of course, such words...and social media photos like the one above...by Cuba's feisty First Lady taunt the so-called fake news Cuban journalists in Miami.
Very quickly, Miami responded to Lis Cuesta's bait, or taunt. Fabiola Santiago was born in Cuba but for decades she has worked for the Miami Herald as a reporter and as a longtime Opinion/Editorial superstar specializing in demeaning the Bad Cubans in Cuba while loudly championing the Good Cubans in Miami. In Cuba the island's First Lady, Lis Cuesta, has grown a bit tired of reading the constant diatribes from the likes of Fabiola Santiago. Therefore, Lis grinned when she read Fabiola's article about Lis calling Miguel "the dictator of my heart." Lis was actually mocking the low approval ratings of "the last two U. S. presidents {Trump and Biden} that compare so weakly against the high approval rating Miguel has with most Cubans on this island, not just me. Maybe one day the U. S. can elect a President with such a high approval rating, but I'm not holding my breath for that to happen!!"
And...this was the massive headline/article/editorial in the Miami Herald that Cuban-born Fabiola Santiago was provoked into writing after she read Lis Cuesta's photo/comment about "the dictator of my heart." Needless to say, Fabiola took the opportunity to write some more mean things about the love of Lis's life that Lis says most of the other Cubans on the island also love deeply. After reading Fabiola's editorial about President Diaz-Canel's "swooning wife," Lis fired off another jab at Miami's fake news Cuban "'journalists' whose lies might make for big bank accounts in Miami but I believe that I sleep better and more truthfully at night than Fabiola does. You see, Fabiola is supported by the money and the force of a superpower nation, but I am supported by a great man who happens to be my husband."

Embargo Tightens but Pandemic Eases for Cuba

As Biden Continues Trump's Cuban Extremes

Mexico's tourist airline MAGNI has contracted for major new flights to Cuba starting in May-2022. And other key airlines are also Cuba-bound.

As Cuba's own successful COVID-19 vaccines successfully ease the island's pandemic woes, the Biden administration, now deep into its second year, continues to follow the extremes of  the Trump presidency that many observers consider to have been a genocidal tightening of the 6-decade-old U. S. Embargo against Cuba. But in April of 2022, as Cuba ends its COVID vaccinations for tourists, there are many more foreign airplanes scheduling more flights to the island...including Turkish, Argentinian, Canadian, etc., airlines.

Also, the giant Southwest Airlines in the United States has succumbed to Miami's "high demand for flights to Cuba on its first day of opening to international tourism." But, as noted in the first paragraph above, "the limitations imposed by the Trump administration remain in force, which prevent these {U.S.} companies to make flights to other Cuban provinces." In other words, U. S. airlines -- thanks to Biden's following/mimicking of Trump's Cuban extremes -- would love to fly to at least nine other major Cuban airports but are restricted to just one, the one in Havana.
In the USA's two-party political system, many believed that the Democrat Biden presidency would ease the Republican Trump's extreme cruelty against Cuban families on the island. In other words, the Biden administration -- like the Trump administration -- is bowing directly to the rich and politically powerful minority of Cuban-Americans who dominate Miami, Newark, and the U. S. Congress. It simply doesn't matter what the rest of the U. S. and the rest of the world thinks about the endless U. S. embargo/blockade of Cuba that devastates Cuban families on the island but drastically enriches and empowers the  Cuban-Americans in Miami, Newark, and Congress.
In other words, it doesn't matter if the worldwide image depicted above shames the United States and Democracy for another 6+ decades. What does matter...is how much money and how much power it means for already rich and powerful people who simply don't want to lose the easy piggybank in which extreme political donations dictate far too much of the U. S. laws and policies.
Alvaro Fernandez, the editor of Miami's Progreso Weekly, tells us that the "TRUMPIFIED MARCO RUBIO uses language of Democracy to subvert Democracy" but it seems that the money-obsessed Miami Herald, NY Times, Washington Post, etc., and most of the rest of the mainstream U. S. media, saturates anti-Cuban tirades to appease Miami, Newark, and the 10 Cubans in Congress.
So...during the Republican Trump presidency from January-2017 till January-2020, Marco Rubio -- the darling of the most extremists Cubans in Little Havana/Miami -- dictated the USA's Cuban policies. When the mainstream U. S. media denies that fact, it is lying to the American people, I think. Above, in the "POLICY SHIFT" mention, it refers to the fact that -- starting in January-2017 -- immediately Rubio was allowed to dismantle all of the inroads the Democratic Obama presidency had made to normalize relations with Cuba; plus Trump allowed Rubio to add drastic anti-Cuba measures to the already drastic Embargo. Of course, as with most of the USA's Cuban policies since the wonderful Spanish-American War in 1898, greed and not Democracy has dictated the treatment that Cuba has gotten from its ultra-powerful, and salivating northern neighbor.
In the 2020 U. S. Presidential Election the Republican Trump was pitted against the Democrat Biden. For 8 years Biden had been Obama's Vice-President, so when Biden won the 2020 election many believed that Trump's anti-Cuban extremes would be lessened. But in the USA's two-party political system, Biden as president has proven that the Democrats, like the Republicans, have also now totally capitulated to the wealth and power of the Cubans who control the U. S. Cuban policies in Little Havana/Miami, Newark, Congress, and now even a Democratic White House.
Thus, during Trump's 4-year presidency the Republican from Miami, Marco Rubio, dictated the USA's Cuban policies. But in the year+ of the Biden presidency, the Democrat from Newark, Bob Menendez, has been allowed to dictate the USA's Cuban policies. Since 1959, Miami & Newark have been the two prime U. S. cities powered by Counter Revolutionary Cubans. And folks, that is not the way the Founding Fathers back in 1776 envisioned their Democracy to behave.
In April of 2022 the Democrat Bob Menendez from Newark has replaced Republican Marco Rubio of Miami as the prime dictator of the USA's Cuban policies, with fellow Senator and sidekick Rubio now relegated to being the USA's #2 prime dictator of the USA's Cuban policies. Prior to the triumph of the Cuban Revolution on January 1 of 1959, Fulgencio Batista and Meyer Lansky -- the two close pals and neighbors in Southern Florida -- had returned to Cuba as dictators from 1952 till January 1, 1959.
And, in other words, permit me to repeat: The victory of the Cuban Revolution in 1959 says a lot more about the mighty United States of America than it says about the island of Cuba. Of course, the Miami Herald, the NY Times, the Washington Post, NBC, Telemundo, and the rest of the mainstream U. S. media will deny that fact, but nevertheless it is still a fact in April of 2022.

Cuba Gets A WIN in A U. S. Courtroom???

Since 1959, and especially since Little Havana/Miami lawyers got the infamous Helms-Burton Act permanently passed in Congress in 1996, Revolutionary Cuba hasn't even bothered to represent itself in U. S. courtrooms. But INCREDIBLY...the above headline stunned Cubans on the island this second week in April of 2022!!! I mean...Cuban monopolies that made millions of dollars in Cuba prior to the Revolution's victory in 1959 have made billions of dollars since landing on anti-Cuban soil in the United States...such as multi-billionaire U. S. monopolies such as...Bacardi Rum, FANJUL SUGAR, etc., etc. etc. Yet, one pro-Cuban headline from a U. S. court is finally a bit astounding and totally unfathomable.
A federal court in Virginia actually produced this incredible pro-Cuba verdict: "The United States Patent and Trademark Office {PTO} won a lawsuit filed by the rum manufacturer Bacardi & Co. after the agency reaffirmed that Havana Club is Cuban property." Incredible, astounding, unfathomable!!
Yes, incredible!!! Now poor little EMBARGOED Cuba will still be allowed to make a few pennies from Havana Club sales while, of course, Bacardi Superior and the other brands will continue to make billions for the extended U.S.-based Bacardi family, but Havana Club can make a few pennies for Cuba??? Incredible!!
For heavens's sake!!
I mean, what the hell was that Virginia court thinking this week??? I mean...since 1962 the U.S. EMBARGO and since 1996 the X-rated Helms-Burton Act have both been legal, wonderful, and permanent United States laws and institutions, right? But in the second week of April in 2022 a federal court in Virginia actually produced a pro-Cuban verdict on American soil??? I mean...give me a break, and maybe even a bottle of Havana Club.

Cuban Allies Embargoed Too

Today -- on April 7th-2022 -- the top headlines related to Cuba reveal how the Biden presidency has followed the Trump presidency's massive assault against families on the island to appease a few rich and politically powerful Cubans in Miami and in the U. S. Congress. The articles today by Reuters, the Miami Herald, Bloomberg, and Al Jazeera all refer to the fact that the Rubio/Menendez-dictatation of the USA's Cuban policies during the Trump-to-Biden transition reveals that the USA's two-party political system -- Republican & Democratic -- now both cater only to extremist Little Havana Cubans in Miami who keep getting richer and more powerful in their unchallenged and lucrative efforts to regain control of Havana...as in the pre-Revolution days in the 1950s when the U.S., the Mafia, and Batista ruled and robbed the Caribbean's largest island nation.

Cuba's President Miguel Diaz-Canel repeatedly tells the Cuban people: "We must adjust to the fact that Biden will continue the lucrative genocide that the Trump regime began against Cuban families when he activated the most genocidal aspect of the legal but criminal Helms-Burton Act. Now in March and April of 2022 the unique economic and military power of the United States is using the pandemic, the blockade, the war in Ukraine, and other topical excuses to further starve Cuban families while also funding new methods to entice our young adults to defect to Miami. We, however, must continue to do all we can to make sure that  foreign-backed criminals like Batista and Lansky don't again rule Cuba. Our food production, our energy production, and other necessary aspects of daily life must be improved because now Washington's blockade against us is more-and-more aimed at any nation that seeks the freedom to have commercial ties to Cuba."
President Diaz-Canel has said that Cuba, despite the blockade, must produce more of its food and energy needs or "else the Cubans who dictate Biden's Cuban policies will succeed with their efforts to starve and deprive our children as a means to weaken the sovereign resolves of Cuba's adults." The above headline about U. S. sanctions aimed at Cuba's allies such as "Venezuela" is an example of what Diaz-Canel is having to deal with.
As the Reuters article updates, Cuba is "struggling to recover following the coronavirus pandemic and harsher U. S. sanctions imposed by the administration of former President Donald Trump."
While the worldwide London-based Reuters News Agency is able to report some true facts about Cuba's U.S.-imposed problems, the U. S. media is obligated to primarily provide the American people only with Little Havana's one-sided opinions about what everyday Cubans on the island face from Miami's ultra-rich and ultra-unchallenged Cubans.
A U. S. democracy that has an unending string of only self-serving extremist Counter Revolutionary Cuban-Americans elected to dictate politics in Florida and in Washington resembles the democracy that was in charge of the USA's support of the Batista dictatorship in Cuba in the 1950s. As indicated above, in the U. S. media both the right-wing and left-wing media powers reflect only Little Havana's views of the U.S.-Cuba conundrum. Most Cuban-Americans don't agree with what the U. S. is doing to everyday Cubans on the island but both the U. S. media and the U. S. democracy seem geared to only catering to self-serving extremists like Maria Salazar, who is the latest example to prove that only extremists like her get to be elected in Florida and to the U. S. Congress...and now get to be saturated in the Democratic Biden White House. And only such extremists need apply.
In the USA's two-party political system, Americans should study the four photos directly above. In the past 5+ years only the Republican Marco Rubio or the Democrat Bob Menendez have been the ultra-powerful Chairmen of the Foreign Relations Committee in the United States Senate during both the Trump and Biden presidencies. Not coincidentally, Cuba is a Foreign Country and both Rubio and Menendez are very controversial but totally unchallenged and extremely self-serving Counter Revolutionary extremists who can readily dictate U. S. Cuban policies. Back in the 1950s the American people were told it was nice to have Batista & Luciano in charge of Cuba; and in 2022 Americans are told that it is nice to have Rubio & Menendez in charge of the USA's Cuban policies. Perhaps...it is time for both Miami and Washington to listen to second opinions that actually reflect democracy.
For example, in his classic book HAVANA NOCTURNE T. J. English had second thoughts about "How the Mob Owned Cuba...and Then Lost It to the Revolution." Perhaps, in April of 2022, it is time for all democracy-loving Americans to have second thoughts about the USA's history regarding Cuba, especially about how lucrative the endless attempt to recapture the Caribbean's largest and most beautiful island is for a few very lucky and uncontested people.
For sure, as created by America's Founding Fathers in 1776, DEMOCRACY was the best government ever devised by the minds & hearts of mankind. And it is still the best template!!
Still pretending in April of 2022 that this was DEMOCRACY in Cuba in the 1950s might benefit a select few people in Florida and in Congress, but it continues to shame the experiment that America's Founding Fathers so painstakingly crafted in 1776.
In the backyard of the superpower United States, the island nation of Cuba -- like all other small nations in the Caribbean and elsewhere around the whole world -- deserve not to be exploited and robbed by rich people in much-larger and much-stronger nations.
Rich people in southern Florida making people in Cuba poorer-and-poorer may be politically and socially acceptable in the United States, but that doesn't make it right.
