The sole publisher of Cubaninsider, Rich Haney, has passionately studied Cuba day and night since the 1980s and he has visited the island. He is a fiercely pro-democracy conservative Republican from Virginia and he believes the Cuban Revolution and Revolutionary Cuba say more about the United States than they say about Cuba.
The United States has just finished hosting the Ninth Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles. At a time when the nations of the Americas, including the United States, have massive problems with things such as runaway inflation, runaway crime, runaway health issues, etc., etc., etc., the biggest headlines emanating from the LA Summit of the Americas concerned the USA's continuing obsession with its decades-old obsession with destroying Revolutionary Cuba. Therefore at the Summit in LA the U. S. pretended that Cuba and its allies Venezuela and Nicaragua were not nations in the Americas, so they were not invited.Of course, from 1898 till 1959 -- from the Spanish-American War till the Cuban Revolution -- the U. S. dominated Cuba and thus Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua were considered nations in the Americas, especially from 1952 till 1959 when the U. S. and the Mafia supported the brutal Batista-Lansky dictatorship.
The "News about the Summit of the Americas in LA forcused on Cuba." with headlines such as: "U.S. Excludes Cuba, Venezuela, & Nicaragua from Americas Summit;" "Mexican President Won't Attend U.S.-Hosted Summit of the Americas Due to Cuba Not Being Invited;"and so forth.
The United States can get away with the Blockade of Cuba, the Embargo against Cuba, blocking Cuba from the Summit in LA, etc., because the United States is the strongest and richest nation in the world...and thus the U. S. can beat all of them or shower aid money on them for cooperating. But, perhaps, the biggest surprise to the the USA's Cuban policy, especially in the past six+ decades,is what it means to the image it presents to much of the world about the U. S. democracy.
Andmeanwhile, during the first weekend of June-2022 while the U. S. was hosting the Summit of the Americas in LA, Cubans on the island were still being punished by...the Blockade, the Embargo, the Summit, Little Havana's beloved Helms-Burton Act, and all of the other uncontested Little Havana USA-dominated Cuban policies.
Andmeanwhile, during this just completed first weekend in June-2022, Hurricane Agatha also visited Cuba with deadly floods in Havana{above} and the rest of western Cuba and some of central Cuba. {But, remember, Americans are not supposed to care because, you know, all the nice Cubans are in Little Havana USAand all the bad Cubans are still in Havana!!}.
Today -- June 3rd, 2022 -- the United States began hosting the Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles. Only extreme Cuban anti-Cuban dissidents were invited, not Cuba's President Miguel Diaz-Canel. Of course, back in the 1950s...prior to the 1959 triumph of the Cuban Revolution...the United States wildly believed that the Batista-Mafia dictatorship on the island was a monumentally important nation in the Americas...because Fulgencio Batista and Meyer Lansky allowed rich U. S. companies to partake in the wholesale rape and robbery of the Caribbean's largest and, arguably, its most beautiful island nation. But since 1959, unable to regain control of Cuba, the U. S. even denies that Revolutionary Cuba is a nation.
Actually, Cuban President Miguel Diaz Canel said, "I never for a minute considered being in Los Angeles for the Summit of the Americas. The genocide the United States has committed against everyday Cuban families since 1959 must not ever be rewarded or ignored...and that is not to even mention the cowardly military attack, unlimited assassinations and attempts, unlimited terror attacks by U.S.-paid Cubans, and history's longest and cruelest blockade that was expanded to take advantage of the COVID pandemic. No, the U. S. can use the Summit in Los Angeles to continue to lie about its Cuban atrocities, but in these next days it will use the well-funded Cuban dissidents to support their lies. Unlimited dollars to build lies can hide atrocities, I suppose."
Born after the Cuban Revolution's 1959 triumph, President Miguel Diaz-Canel has been a popular Cuban on the island since his long stint as Minister of Education. And that appears also to be so since he became President in 2018. He is a ubiquitous and effective communicator and loves to talk with the Cuban people in street walks, on radio & television, and on Social Media platforms. He says, "The last two U. S. presidents, Trump and Biden, according to polls, have only the support of about 30% of the American people. I can say to my people, if most of them did not support me, I would resign as their President."
As a communicator, President Miguel Diaz-Canel is well-known and apparently well-beloved by the majority of the Cubans in Cuba. But the United States, the nation that loudly promoted tourism to Batista's & Lansky's Cuba in the 1950s, doesn't even think thatDiaz-Canel's Cuba is a country in the Americas, and therefore the U. S. makes it illegal for Americans to visit Cuba as touristsbecause tourist dollars would not compute with the U.S.'s ageless plan, since 1962, to legally starve the Cuban economy with no regard about how that affects and effects everyday Cubans.
Since 1962, the Blockade.
And since 1898's Spanish-American War, the United States has had huge magnets specifically aimed at Cuba to make sure who sucks away the resources from the coveted island. Of course, to have the cooperation of the USA's 330 million citizens, the USA uses the cooperation of the U. S. media to constantly tell the American people that, since 1959, all the good Cubans have been in Miami, Newark, and Congresswhile all the bad Cubans are still in Cuba,so it's OK to starve them.
No mother and no little girl in the Americas should be targeted all their lives by things such as an endless and genocidal Embargo/Blockade imposed by a much more powerful foreign nation.I believe that sentence is true regardless if Americans are programmed not to believe it.
And regardless of what the United States is saying at the Ninth Summit of the Americas now being held in Los Angeles,Cuba is not only a country in the Americas but it is the largest and most beautiful country in the Caribbean, which is at America's southern back door...right below Florida!!
For all four years of his Presidency, Donald Trump turned the USA's Cuban policy from decades of cruelty into sheer genocide against Cuban families on the island to further appease, enrich, and empower a minority of counter revolutionary U. S. Cubans that already were rich and powerful, especially in Little Havana/Miami and Newark/NJ. Little Havana in the heart of Miami is the home to Assault Brigade 2506, the veterans that used tons of tax dollars to attack Revolutionary Cuba in April of 2021. Trump, of course, announced his genocide against Cuba in front of the Assault Brigade 2506 banner in Little Havana/Miami. While the infamous Helms-Burton Act in 1996 greatly enriched and empowered Little Havana, Trump became the only U. S. President to activate Title 3 of Helms-Burton, which created genocide against Cubans in Cuba but, also of course, increased lawsuits that more enriched Miami's Cubans. Not even President George W. Bush, who increased the Bush dynasty's historically close ties to Little Havana, refused to activate Title 3 of Helms-Burton, but Trump activated it as neither the U. S. media nor the U. S. citizens showed the decency to object to its genocidal designs.
But in the USA's two-party political system in January of 2021 the Democrat Joe Biden replaced the Republican Donald Trump as President of the United States. Many believed Biden would quickly end much of Trump's genocide aimed at Cuba, but he didn't. Then finally, in June of 2022...deep into his second year as President...Biden apparently is beginning to at least ease some of Trump's starvation tactics against Cuban families on the island.
Here are the Top Cuban Headlines for today -- June 2nd, 2022. As you can see, the Biden administration has ordered its Transportation Secretary to "Lift Trump-era restrictions on Cuban Flights." Trump had allowed some U. S. flights to Havana but not to the other major Cuban airports. Back in the 1950s prior to the 1959 triumph of the Cuban Revolution, the U. S. had wildly supported tourism to the brutal Mafia-run Batista dictatorship because Batista permitted rich U. S. businesses to partake in the looting of the island, but since 1959...while unable to overthrow Revolutionary Cuba...the U. S. has tried to starve the island with the Embargo/Blockade that blocks tourism money from reaching the nearby island via airplanes & cruise ships. So, the June 2nd-2022 headlines above indicate that the Biden administration is"lifting"at least some of those starvation tactics against Cubans on the island.
Above on June 2nd-2022NBC News was among the sources reporting that the Biden administration will now allow U. S. airlines to fly to other Cuban cities, not just to Havana. The photos above show when, prior to Trump, aJet Blue airplane was welcomed at the International airport in Santa Clara, Cuba.
But, as noted, in the USA's two-party political system the RepublicanMarco Rubio from Miami and the DemocratBob Menendez from Newark presumably can continue to dictate, or at least massively influence, Cuban policies in either Republican or Democratic Congresses or White Houses. For example, under TrumpSenator Rubio was conveniently the Chairman of the powerful Foreign Relations Committee in the U. S. Senate. And under Biden Senator Menendez is conveniently the Chairman of the powerful Foreign Relations Committee. Cuba, of course, is a foreign nation...and, of course, only extremely fierce Counter Revolutionary Cuban Americans from Miami and Newark -- such asRubio &Menendez -- get elected to Congress and then quickly aspire to such positions as...Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee.
In other words, even as the June 2nd-2022 Headlines report that the United States is"lifting" some of the"restrictions" against Cuba, that doesn't mean that the genocidal blockade against the island is or will end.
The U. S. Embargo/Blockade of Cuba has existed since 1962 and it followed the April-1961 Bay of Pigs/Brigade 2506 military attack that embarrassingly failed to overthrow Revolutionary Cuba. But, despite international condemnation from the United Nations and elsewhere, theEMBARGOapparently will exist for another six decades or so!! That, of course, means that American tax-payers and voters will continue to be told that all the good Cubans are in Miami and Newark while all the bad Cubans are still on the island. And also, of course, the Embargo/Blockade of Cuba will exist another six decades or so if the American people continue to be programmed to not to be ashamed of the worldwide image of the United States depicted above.
Later this week -- on June 3rd in Los Angeles -- the Ninth Summit of the Americas will begin its five-day 2022 event. Even the map shown above registers the fact thatCuba is one of the nations that comprises theAmericas. But most of the attention leading up to the Summit concerns the fact that the United States plans to not invite Cuba and its allies Venezuela and Nicaragua to the event.
Today -- on May 30th, 2022 -- above are the two Top Headlines in the world related to Cuba.Al Jazeera's headline concerns a long interview its respected Latin American expert Lucia Newman had with Cuba's Carlos Fernandez de Cossio, who is Cuba's prime Minister in charge of issues with the United States. And theMiami Herald's headline today, of course, only concerns the views of extremist Counter Revolutionary Cubans in Miami's Little Havana section. Of course, Little Havana dominates Florida's politics as well as Washington's politics when it comes to Cuba. Thus, of course, Cuba is not welcomed at the Summit of the Americas starting Friday in Los Angeles. But, of course, key Cuban dissidents in Cuba are invited!!
Because she is a well known Cuban dissident from Santa Clara, Cuba, Saily Gonzalez got a massive invitation to attend the Summit of the Americas!!
The Cuban government blames Saily Gonzalez of being supported by Miami Cubans and that she has backed riotous opposition protests. Below is how Saily Gonzalez proudly splashed her Summit invitation all over Social Media as well, of course, via14/Medio, the ultra powerful and supposedly well-funded counter revolutionary digital newspaper published by Yoani Sanchez, who is Little Havana's & Washington's favorite dissident.
For a couple of decadesLucia Newman was one of the USA's most notable journalist related to Latin American, with top awards including the Edward R. Murrow prize for Latin American coverage. She now is the Latin America Editor forAl Jazeera.
Prior to the Summit of the Americas starting June 3rd in Los Angeles, Lucia Newman had a long interview withCarlos Fernandez De Cossio, Cuba's top Minister concerning the United States. The half-hour interview is in English and all of it is shown in the video below, so just tap it to see & hear it.
The entire Lucia Newman-Carlos Fernandez interview is shown in its entirety above and it shows the astute and respected Carlos Fernandez presenting Cuba's views on such things as the Summit, the Embago/blockade, etc. A very pleasant man, he has been invited to speak in Miami and other Florida venues but he has repeatedly said that the U. S. media"only presents one side of the two-sided story pertaining to U.S.-Cuban relations."
The world-renowned London-based Reuters News Agency can be relied on to report honestly about U.S.-Cuban relations, including this week's summit.
As you can see above,Reuters honestly informed the world about:"Sally Gonzalez, a Cuban entrepreneur and one-time member of a dissident group that called for protests in Cuba last November, posted an image of her invitation, dated May 20, on social media late on Friday."
The President of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canelhas not and will not be invited to the Summit of the Americas...but he also has strongly stated that he would not attend "under no circumstances."
The 61-year-old Miguel Diaz-Canel was born after the Cuban Revolution overthrew the U.S.-backed Batista dictatorship more than 62 years ago. But he is a fierce supporter of"our Revolution" and, moreover, he believes most Cubans strongly support him. He says,"I wish, for the region's sake, that the U. S. was a strong democracy. But I see that the polls show that Presidents such as Trump and Biden have had approval ratings in the 30s. I have told meetings, and even on news broadcasts, that I would resign the day I believed that most Cubans don't support me as President."For sure, independent and foreign journalists in Cuba have reported thatDiaz-Canel was very popular during his important stint as Cuba's Minister of Education and that he has been popular with most Cubans in Cuba since he became President in 2018.
As Education Minister and now as President, Miguel Diaz-Canel has emphasized being in close touch with"the Cuban people." He often walks on the streets of Cuban cities, and not just in Havana, to talk to the citizens. He also makes ubiquitous opportunities to speak to the people on radio and television as well as Social Media outlets. For example, above is the start of a Diaz-Canel Social Media reminder to the Cuban people. Translated to English it says,"A mercenary will never understand a patriot...With this I say..."Diaz-Canel often states that mercenaries fight for money while patriots fight for their country. Then he adds:"Americans are not told how in the world this little nation's revolution beat Batista, a powerful dictator who was backed by the United States, the most powerful nation, and by the Mafia, the most powerful criminal organization. Well, the Cuban rebels who fought for Cuba against the mercenaries were patriots. And, so, the American people are not told how in the world this little nation has held off such powerful U.S.-based mercenaries since 1959. Well, the answer is...since 1959 we have always had enough patriots to survive the mercenaries who think of Cuba as a money pit, the way it was for Batista, the United States, and the Mafia prior to the Revolution."
Perhaps...a powerful Cuban Minister named Betsy Diaz is even more blunt than President Diaz-Canel regarding mercenaries and patriots. Betsy Diaz said:"Before the rebel patriots defeated the mercenaries...I mean the Americans, the Mafiosi, and the Batista thugs...the money kings didn't bother to throw a few crumbs to the majority peasants...no education, no food, no health...and then brutally killed anyone who objected. So, thank god...the patriots were smarter and more motivated than the mercenaries."
And so...this week as the Ninth Summit of the Americas gets underway in Los Angeles, the United States apparently doesn't think ofCuba as a country in the Americas. But Cubans such as President Miguel Diaz-Canel and Minister Betsy Diaz try to remind everyone that Batista's Cuba in the 1950s was a time when the United States believed that Cuba was an utra-important country just below Key West, Florida!!!!
