Remembering A Cuban Legend

A True Revolutionary Giant!!
This week -- on June 18th, 2007 -- Vilma Espin died. As the image above illustrates, she was a Revolutionary giant as a guerrilla fighter and, later in Revolutionary Cuba from 1959 till the day she died, she was instrumental in reshaping Cuba by creating such innovations as the still-powerful Federation of Cuban Women.
The current leader of the Federation of Cuban Women is Teresa Amarelle Boue. Today Teresa said, "Today the legacy of Vilma Espin is a major force in our fight during the COVID-19 pandemic because of all she did to reshape this island's healthcare apparatuses from scratch beginning in January of 1959 right after the triumph of the Revolution, which she fought so hard to make successful. Our pride in Cuba today is because of Vilma, Celia, Haydee and other Cuban women like them." Today Cubans across the island, like Teresa Amarelle Boue, remembered Vilma Espin.
Born in Santiago de Cuba on April 7, 1930, Vilma Espin was a revolutionary heroine till the day she died on June 18, 2007.
This famous Dickey Chapelle photo shows two revolutionary giants -- Celia Sanchez and Vilma Espin -- taking a break from the Revolutionary War. During the war and afterward, Celia and Vilma were two of the TOP FOUR most important revolutionaries. Fidel Castro worshipped the ground that Celia stood on and Raul Castro married Vilma just a few days after the victory of the Revolution in January of 1959, and they remained married till Vilma died on June 18th, 2007.
In fact, in the annals of the Cuban Revolution and Revolutionary Cuba, the photo above depicts the BIG FOUR: Vilma Espin, Fidel Castro, Raul Castro, and Celia Sanchez. Cuban historians would add Che Guevara if it was a BIG FIVE but, restricted to a BIG FOUR, the photo above reveals, I think, the four most important Cuban revolutionaries.
Cuban women were at the forefront and at the finish of the Cuban Revolution that defeated the U.S.-backed and Mafia-backed Batista dictatorship on January 1, 1959. And the war would never have been won without the passion and dedication of three particular women: Vilma Espin, Celia Sanchez, and Haydee Santamaria. Cubans on the island know that fact to this day although it is not acknowledged in the United States, which six+-decades-later is trying to regain control of the pugnacious island that Vilma, Celia, and Haydee forged.
Indeed, Cuban women started the Revolution and then, after winning it, gave birth to the Federation of Cuban Women after they had reshaped their island.
How did badly out-gunned and badly out-numbered rebels on an island nation win a revolution against a brutal and powerful dictator who was supported by the Mafia, the world's strongest criminal organization, and by the United States, the world's strongest nation??? Well, the incomparable rebel Celia Sanchez provided a powerful answer with the exact quotation depicted above: "We rebels...get far too much credit for winning the Revolution. Our enemies deserve most of the credit, for being greedy cowards and Idiots."
Cuban historian Pedro Alvarez Tabio said: "If Batista had managed to kill Celia Sanchez anytime between 1953 and 1957, there would have been no viable Cuban Revolution, and no revolution for Fidel and Che to join."
To many, it is still Celia's Cuba.
During the Revolutionary War, Celia Sanchez earned the nickname La Paloma, The Dove. To this day, many Cubans believe she still hovers above the island, protecting them.
Remembering Celia, who died Jan. 11, 1980.
During the war, Celia fought beside Fidel during the day and slept beside him at night...often planning the next day's fighting high up in the Sierra Maestra Mountains.
Born in the city of Media Luna and the daughter of a doctor, Celia Sanchez's motivation to defeat the Batista dictatorship was her passionate love for Cuba's everyday, non-elite children. She believed under Batista, they were provided no education, no healthcare, and were routinely murdered as a vile warning to the peasants not to resist. And she was correct, as the following two photos attest.
Unfortunately, in the United States since 1959 the Cuban narrative has been the providence of Counter Revolutionaries who fled the Cuban Revolution. Therefore, to this day in June of 2020 Americans are not allowed to understand the meaning of the two above photos that chronicle what the U.S.-backed Batista-Mafia dictatorship did to the majority non-elite Cubans on the island in the 1950's. And since 1959 the superpower U. S. has supported the Batistiano effort to recapture Cuba. As you can see in the next photo-quotation, Celia Sanchez herself had the best statement to explain why and how Americans have been grossly lied to about the Cuban Revolution since 1959.
Since 1959 in the U. S., only the most extreme Counter Revolutionary Cubans -- such as Mario Diaz-Balart, Marco Rubio, and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen -- have been allowed to write or tell the history of the Cuban Revolution, sanctifying the Batista-Mafia dictatorship while excoriating everything about Revolutionary Cuba. While, incredibly, that distorted view of history has existed, the likes of the Diaz-Balart brothers, Rubio, and Ros-Lehtinen have also been allowed to dictate in the U. S. Congress and in all Republican White Houses legal laws that severely enrich and empower a few selected Cuban-Americans in the strongholds of Miami & Newark and in the U. S. Congress while severely punishing all Cubans on the island and discriminating against the majority of Cuban-Americans who disagree with such things as terrorism against innocent Cubans, the six-decade-old economic Embargo of the island and, during the Trump administration, an economic Blockade of the island.
In 2020, to appease a handful of Miami-Newark Cubans, the ageless Embargo against Cuba has evolved into a genocidal Blockade against masses of everyday Cubans on the island. Yet, the majority of decent Americans and the majority of decent Cuban-Americans are unable to do anything about it.
In Revolutionary Cuba, this photo shows Celia Sanchez the day Vilma Espin became a mother.
Throughout it all...military attacks, terrorist attacks, the Embargo, the Blockade, etc...it can honestly be said in June of 2020 that the legacies of Cuba's revolutionary women such as Celia Sanchez and Vilma Espin have drastically improved the lives of Cuban children on the island, such as the ones above. As a democracy-loving American who has been to Cuba, it pains me that Americans are not allowed to know the difference between children in today's Cuba as opposed to the children in Batista's Cuba back in the 1950's.
Indeed, this was a typical image of non-elite Cuban children in Batista's Cuba. In June, 2020, I believe that Americans in a democracy should be allowed to know such history.
Prior to the Cuban Revolution's victory in 1959, top Mafia kingpins such as Lucky Luciano teamed with dictator Batista and rich American businessmen to both plunder and brutalize the island of Cuba. As correctly referenced above, the 1946 Organized Crime Conference in 1946 at the Hotel Nacional in Havana paved the way for a second Batista dictatorship on the island, this time in partnership with the Mafia and American businessmen.
The first Batista dictatorship in Cuba evolved in the 1930's, after which the obscenely rich Fulgencio Batista retired to a life of luxury in South Florida.
When Batista had a mansion in Florida, his neighbors included Mafia kingpins like Lucky Luciano and Meyer Lansky. It was Lansky who famously told his best buddy Batista, "You know, I have always wanted the Mob to own its own country." That comment led to the second Batista dictatorship in Cuba starting in 1952, fulfilling Lansky's wish for the Mafia's ownership of its own country...at least until it was ended by the Cuban Revolution in 1959.
Even as late in 1958, when Cuban rebels were marching toward the key city of Santa Clara south of Havana, Meyer Lansky was busy opening his own splendid hotel in Havana in the island nation that Lansky's Mob owned. In New York Lansky had earned the reputation as the Mafia's financial genius, but he was not smart enough...while raping and robbing Cuba blind...to at least throw a few crumbs to the majority peasants, which he didn't believe was necessary so powerful and invincible the Mafia-backed and USA-backed Batista dictatorship was.
But at the end of December-1958, while Fidel was capturing the crucial former capital city of Santiago de Cuba, Camilo Cienfuegos and Che Guevara captured Santa Clara, the gateway to Havana...and in the wee hours of January 1-1959 with the Santa Clara rebels racing to Havana, the Mafia-Batista dictators were racing to their loot-filled getaway boats, ships, and airplanes.
The photo above shows the legendary Tete Puebla and other famed female guerrilla fighters arriving in newly recaptured Havana on the back of a truck. Tete, on the far left above, was very disappointed that "the Batistianos and Mafiosi had decided not to stay around and fight us." Tete, while still a teenager, had become a legendary guerrilla fighter in the Sierra Maestra Mountains and its foothills.
Today Tete Puebla is a General in the Cuban army.
This image commemorates Che's Aleida March, Fidel's Celia Sanchez, and Raul's Vilma Espin as revolutionary legends.
And make no mistake about it, in Revolutionary Cuba the prime decision-maker was Celia Sanchez, and even when he disagreed with her Fidel Castro ALWAYS supported Celia's decisions 100%. And because Celia & Fidel never officially married, they officially made Vilma Espin Cuba's First Lady.
During the revolution, women like Haydee Santamaria and Celia Sanchez were not only prime guerrilla fighters but also major decision-makers. Celia and Haydee also were the two most important recruiters of the rebels, money, and weapons that fueled the vital early months of the war.
Posters and billboards such as this abound in Cuba today, remembering 23-year-old teacher Frank Pais and the doctor's daughter Celia Sanchez as the prime early recruiters of rebels, weapons, and supplies that made the Revolution viable. Frank and his 17-year-old brother Jesus were captured and brutally executed but the largest Batista bounty was on Celia's head...and she was never captured.
As noted by the three photos directly above, some of the most notable statues in Cuba today are of Celia Sanchez...although she was painfully shy and shunned publicity during his lifetime.
In the middle of the war, as in still-targeted Revolutionary Cuba, even confronted with problems such as her truck getting  stuck in the mud, Celia Sanchez was known to be quick with smiles and optimistic hope. She once told famed New York Times journalist Herbert L. Matthews, "When I smile it shows I am still alive...and that shows that I still have time to do what I must do for Cuba. That's worth a smile."
During the war and then in Revolutionary Cuba, Celia Sanchez, Haydee Santamaria, and Vilma Espin were instrumental in the victory of the Revolution and their legacies have contributed immeasurably to the extraordinary longevity of Revolutionary Cuba. Celia and Haydee both died in 1980; when Celia died of cancer at age 59 on January 11, 1980, the heartbroken Haydee shortly thereafter committed suicide. Vilma died from cancer 13 years ago -- on June 18th, 2007.
And by the way, my favorite photo of Celia Sanchez is the one depicted below that was taken by the great photographer Roberto Salas. This photo was taken in the early days of Revolutionary Cuba, Celia's Cuba. I believe, come hell or high water, it should remain Celia's Cuba, not Rubio's Cuba.

Can Cuba Survive Trump?

Yes, No, Maybe!!
A respected diplomat, Carlos de Cossio, is Cuba's Director of United States Affairs. Generally, ever since 1959, only Counter Revolutionary zealots from Little Havana in Miami have dictated the USA's Cuban narrative but the Associated Press used the photo above to illustrate an internationally important article that allowed Carlos de Cossio to express Havana's views on what most Cubans on the island believe is the Trump's administration's genocide against them. The article is entitled: "Cuba's Top Diplomat For US Affairs Says Ties At New Low." Here are some of the points that the USA's top news agency, AP, permitted Carlos de Cossio to state:
"Relations have sunk to a new low and potentially could sink even lower with the appointment of Marco Rubio as acting chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee.
"The AK rifle attack at the Cuban Embassy in Washington on April 30th appears to be accepted by the U. S. government and the U. S. media." {de Cossio himself, along with 11 others, was inside the Cuban Embassy near the White House when it was attacked by 32 AK rifle shots. The shooter was a Trump-supporting Cuban with Miami and Texas ties}.
"The current U. S. government, its State Department, and the Secretary of State have made it very clear that they have no interest whatsoever to improve the relationship with Cuba.
"Whatever Americans decide during the November presidential election this year will have impact in the rest of the world, especially in Cuba. Today one can say that the difference between the positions of the Democratic Party and the Republican Party regarding Cuba is larger that even before." Carlos de Cossio and everyday Cubans on the island, who are now ubiquitous on Social Media, are stunned at the difference between Democratic President Obama's decency towards them and Republican President Trump's indecency towards them. And most of all, they are stunned that the American people are letting Trump and Rubio get away with genocide against them.
The AP article, written by Havana-based Andrea Rodriguez, gave Carlos de Cossio a rare chance to present Cuba's opinion via the U. S. media. His viewpoints mirror the opinions of the vast majority of the 11.4 million Cubans on the island. That is apparent because Cubans now are fervent users of the Social Media, and most adults now own Smart Phones or know friends & family who do. Daily on Facebook, etc., Cubans fervently make the points that de Cossio made...such as saying that U. S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is a mouthpiece for Marco Rubio, the Florida Senator that Cubans on the island consider the American Dictator on U. S. soil.
In other words, as Carlos de Cossio and everyday Cubans on Social Media often discuss, Marco Rubio in 2020 in America has replaced 1950's Fulgencio Batista as America's new Cuban dictator.
Of course, in the 1950's Fulgencio Batista as Cuba's dictator was supported by the top echelon of the Mafia, the world's most powerful criminal organization, and the USA, the world's most powerful country. But Batista's extreme brutality and thievery spawned the Cuban Revolution, which incredibly overthrew Batista and his cronies on January 1, 1959. But, also incredibly, from 1959 till today, the triumph of the Cuban Revolution spawned Little Havana in nearby Miami.
And in June of 2020 all that bit of history takes us to another generation of Little Havana Counter Revolutionary Cubans, such as Marco Rubio, who are continuing the blistering six-decades-old effort to recapture Cuba...and still they are supported by the world's economic and military Superpower. Little Havana Cubans, once in Congress, try to Chair the Committees that move relate to recapturing Cuba while also legalizing pipelines of tax dollars from Washington to Little Havana -- such as the Foreign Relations Committee, the Western Hemisphere Affairs Committee, the Armed Services Committee, the Financial Committees, etc., etc. In the aforementioned AP article about Cuban diplomat Carlos de Cossio, you'll recall, he began his lament about the Trump administration by lamenting Rubio's recent elevation to the Chairmanship of the Senate's powerful Intelligence Committee. That, of course, gives Rubio another tool to recapture Cuba and project the Little Havana denizens as saints.
While even the viciously left-wing anti-Trump media in the U. S. is too afraid of Little Havana to fairly report on Rubio's genocidal role as America's Cuban dictator, or mention Rubio's unchecked pinocchio-nosed diatribes about Cuba, the genocide against masses of Cubans on the island continues unabated, and it expands weekly in June of 2020.
For sure, Rubio was sent to the U. S. Congress in Washington from Little Havana to re-capture Cuba. But his safe incumbency from Miami and his unchecked assaults on Cuba emboldened Rubio to also add the capture of America, meaning the White House, to his agenda. In the Republican primary in 2016, as illustrated by the photo above, Rubio, powerfully backed by some well-known right-wing billionaires, was a presidential candidate against Donald Trump. They hated each other, and still do, and called each other vile names...before Trump easily dismissed Rubio with the moniker "Little Marco."
But in January of 2017 when Donald Trump became President, Little Marco Rubio and President Trump needed each other. Rubio needed Trump to re-capture Cuba and Trump needed Rubio because he wanted to keep Little Havana's support during his first-term as President and, especially, so he could corral Florida's crucial 29 Electoral Votes in the November-2020 presidential election.
Yes, in June of 2020 President Trump and Senator Rubio still hate each other but they also still need each other -- Trump so he can be a two-term President and Rubio so he can re-capture Cuba, which is why Little Havana sent him to Washington in the first place.
But remember what I pointed out earlier: Rubio, in addition to re-capturing Cuba, still wants to capture America too. Trump believes Rubio is a back-stabber but Trump is too afraid of Little Havana to do anything about it. Yet, even during Trump's waning four-months as President during his fading first term, Trump is aware that Rubio is trying to wrest control of the Republican Party from Trump. In other words, Little Marco, and especially the BIG Billionaires who control him, do not want to wait almost FIVE MORE YEARS to take over the White House.
An important journalist in Rubio's hometown of Miami, Alfaro Fernandez, is the key man at the Miami-based Progreso Weekly. He knows all about Rubio as a person and as a Little Havana politician.
The Progreso Weekly image above reflects what Alfaro Fernandez thinks of the Pinocchio-nosed Rubio. Of course, the "Trumpified Marco Rubio using language of Democracy to subvert Democracy" will not hurt Rubio from remaining in the United States Senate as long as he chooses...and it will also not harm either of his two goals -- re-capturing Cuba and capturing America.
Yes, Little Marco Rubio easily rode the Florida alligator from Little Havana all the way to the U. S. Senate in Washington. And well-heeled, he might still easily ride that same alligator to a triumphant trot over to the White House.
Many veteran journalists in Washington believe that the city's best investigative journalist is Ken Silverstein. The image/illustration above is courtesy of Dale Stephanos/New York Observer. It was featured as the prelude to a long, detailed essay that Ken Silverstein wrote about Marco Rubio's career. Here are the exact opening words of that very important biographical essay:
"When it comes to sheer brazen corruption, chicanery and dishonesty there is one candidate who stands head and shoulders above everyone else and it is the right-wing Cuban-American and Tea Party darling Senator Marco Rubio of -- naturally -- the great State of Florida. Mr. Rubio's entire public image is less tethered to reality than The Wizard of Oz."
Then in excruciating detail -- names, dates, locations, etc. -- Ken Silverstein painstakingly constructed what many believe is the best bio of Marco Rubio. As far as I know, no one ever sued Ken Silverstein about his salacious information.

US Counter Revolutionary Cubans

They Want More Than Cuba!!
In these first two weeks of June, 2020, the United States has some major problems -- the Coronavirus pandemic; racial protests complete with riots from coast-to-coast plus in the non-contiguous states of  Alaska and Hawaii; and in an American society awash with billionaires amidst abject poverty; etc. Yet, the Trump administration in Washington is allowed in the world's strongest Democracy to devote precious money and massive amounts of time committing genocide against masses  of everyday people on the nearby island of Cuba.
With NO OBJECTIONS from neither the mainstream U. S. media nor the U. S. citizens, Trump pointed his finger at a handful of powerful Counter Revolutionary Cubans in Little Havana/Miami and verily said...give me Florida's 29 Electoral Votes to get me re-elected on November 3rd, and I will starve the Cubans on the island so you will regain that beautiful island nation!!!! In my opinion, the mainstream U. S. media and the everyday U. S. citizens are more to blame than Trump but he thinks he is gaining something by sacrificing 11 million Cubans on the island while we citizens and the mainstream media are sitting on our rear-ends too cowardly to intervene.
When neither the mainstream U. S. media nor the everyday U. S. citizens didn't have the courage to react to the above handshake, the United States Democracy took a bigger hit even than the people of Cuba, who have displayed historic resilience for many decades. For over two generations, Miami Cubans such as Marco Rubio -- backed by self-serving Presidents like Trump -- have dictated America's brutal Cuban policies, and gotten rich and powerful by doing so. Since 1959 Rubio and his ilk have been unchecked in devising methods, backed by the world's superpower nation, that has tried, among other things, to starve Cubans on the island to induce them to get to Miami TO GET RICH like Rubio is, leaving the Caribbean's largest and most beautiful island at the mercy of foreigners -- AGAIN!! The problem with Rubio's propagandized theory is that there have always been, since 1959, enough Cubans on the island who prefer their Revolution to what preceded it -- the brutal U.S.-backed Batista-Mafia dictatorship. In other words, Cubans on the island deserve the right to decide if they prefer Revolutionary Cuba to Batista, Luciano, and Rubio. Dictating the Cuban narratives in the U. S., Rubio gets away with saying, "What I'm doing is helping Cubans on the island." Cubans on the island now are ubiquitous when it comes to using Social Media to express their opinions...and they repeatedly invoke Rubio's name as their biggest enemy, with opinions today such as, "Rubio makes a rich life in America from trying to starve my one-year-old son and my 5-year-old daughter. We understand that Trump and others support him, but where the hell are the American people who allow Rubio and others like him to profit from imposing genocide on us?"
In America's fragile, money-crazed, two-party political system, another Republican president is allowed to anoint yet another Cuban dictator on U. S. soil, not so unlike Fulgencio Batista was the U. S. anointed dictator in Cuba prior to the 1959 triumph of the Cuban Revolution. But this generation of cowardly, undemocratic Americans has allowed Trump and Rubio to expand the extremely cruel U. S. Embargo of Cuba, in place since 1962, into what in 2020 is a genocidal Blockade of the island. No other U. S. president, not even Little Havana-aligned George W. Bush, had authorized genocide against Cuba but President Trump and Dictator Rubio did that in 2019 when Title III of Helms-Burton was activated. Even Bush had believed that Title III was too GENOCIDAL to impose on everyday Cubans in Cuba. Yet, neither the mainstream U. S. media nor the everyday U. S. people have displayed either the guts or intelligence to enter the fray on behalf of the U. S. democracy...and certainly not on behalf of totally innocent children and others on the island.
In America's money-crazed, two-party political system, when a Republican president replaces a Democratic president, the utter fragility of America's democracy is laid bare by the adherence to Little Havana's decades-old obsession to recapture Havana. In other words, the Cuban Revolutionary victory in 1959 still says a lot more about the United States than it says about Cuba.
Next to the self-serving Little Havana extremist Marco Rubio, Little Havana-obsessed Mauricio Claver-Carone is in charge of America's Cuban policy in 2020. All of his adult life, Claver-Carone has been not only obsessed with recapturing Cuba but "berserk" about recapturing Cuba...according to his hometown newspaper in South Florida. The Naples Daily News, when Claver-Carone became America's prime day-to-day decision-maker regarding U.S.-Cuban issues, ran an article entitled: "A Closer Look At The Man Advising Trump on Cuba." Yes, Americans...most of whom never heard of Claver-Carone...should know the man who is currently using incredible of tax dollars {according to renowned journalist and Florida professor Tracey Eaton} and other powerful U. S. tools to fulfill his lifelong passion, which is to overthrow Revolutionary Cuba. The Naples Daily News, his hometown newspaper, revealed that Claver-Carone...even as a High School football player in Orlando...would literally go "berserk" if anyone even mentioned anything about the Cuban Revolution around him. In the Trump presidency, only "berserk" Counter Revolutionary Cubans like Claver-Carone are allowed to make decisions pertaining to Cuba, and, I think, that harms America and Democracy even more than it hurts Cubans on the island that Claver-Carone is trying to starve.
In my opinion as a Republican and Democracy-loving American, when a "berserk" extremist like Mauricio Claver-Carone is pointed to and then appointed as the man to by President Trump as the unchecked head of America's Western Hemisphere Affairs, I believe it is up for Americans and the U. S. media to inject some input into it. That has not been case although it is now NO SURPRISE that America is now involvement in GENOCIDE AGAINST MASSES OF CUBANS ON THE ISLAND.
In 2019 when "berserk" and self-serving Cubans such as Claver-Carone, Rubio, and the Diaz-Balart brothers persuaded Trump to activate Title III of Helms-Burton, it constitutes genocide against masses of Cubans on the island. If Americans are unaware of that, well...it's a product of the affects of Little Havana's grip on the Cuban narrative in the United States...and also a flagrant example of how propaganda is now imbued deeply within the bowels of the U. S. news media.
Meanwhile, the U. S. has been criticized for taking advantage of COVID-19 to tighten the screws against Cuba, with Cuba complaining that the U. S. even blocked medical supplies that nations such as China and Switzerland tried to send to the island to help fight the pandemic.
Yet, today -- on June 9th, 2020 -- Cuba can post statistics like the ones above that show the island has gone "10 days" without a death from the Coronavirus.
Cuba's Dr. Francisco Duran, shown on the right, daily goes on Cuban television to update the island's people on the pandemic. His stats are also posted in minute detail on social media, even listing every new patient that has tested positive since the previous day. Except for the U. S. media, other outlets with international reach have reported regularly on Cuba's strong health system "leading the way against Coronavirus in Cuba and in dozens of other nations." For example, two powerful London-based newspapers, in print and online, in the same day this week featured headlines touting Cuba. The Guardian headline: "Cuba Sets Example With Successful Programme To Contain Coronavirus." And the London Daily Express headline: "Coronavirus Breakthrough: Second Country {Cuba} Beating Coronavirus After New Zealand."
The article in The Guardian used photos like this to illustrate how Cuba, despite the U. S. Blockade, has battled the COVID-19 pandemic so successfully. It shows Dr. Liz Caballero and medical student Susana Diaz going door-to-door to check on Cubans and keeping written COVID-19 data on each prospective patient. To cover the entire island, the article reported: "28,000 medical students have been mobilized to help veteran doctors and nurses to saturate the island door-to-door." Dr. Caballero said, "We did the same thing to beat the Dengue pandemic." The article said: "Despite the Blockade and being desperate for tourist revenue, Cuba still shut out the outside world and has thrown everything but the kitchen sink at the virus."
The article in The Guardian quoted William LeoGrande, the government Professor at American University and a world-class expert on U.S.-Cuban relations. He said: "There is no other country in the hemisphere that does anything approaching what Cuba does in healthcare for its people."  Of course, controlling the Cuban narrative in the U. S., the likes of Rubio and Claver-Carone claim the reason the U. S. has to TRY to block every penny that might reach Cuba is because Cuba uses its money only to "HARM ITS PEOPLE." William LeoGrande -- in articles, essays, and books -- has explained that Rubio & Claver-Carone and the Little Havana denizens try to make sure that Americans don't have the freedom to visit Cuba, lest they might judge the Cuban people themselves and not have to be deluged with anti-Cuban Little Havana propaganda.
The article in The Guardian used this quote from Gail Reed, the Editor of the MEDICC Review: "Cuba's real success has been applying the most important public health measures that physicians around the world know are effective. And they've had the political will to make it work.""
A renowned and often quoted lecturer on Economic & Social issues at the University of Glasgow in Scotland, and a world-class expert on Cuba, Helen Yaffe said, "Calls from desperate doctors in New York are asking me how they can get access to Cuba's Interferon Alfa-2B." Interferon Alfa-2B is a drug developed by Cuba's renowned biotech industry that is used to battle COVID-19 in Cuba, India, Italy, China, etc.
In the article in The Guardian, the Washington-based Pan American Health Organization had this quote: "While 30% of the 630 million people in Latin America and the Caribbean have no access to healthcare for financial reasons, everybody in Cuba has excellent healthcare for free."
Yet, with Trump's permission Rubio in the U. S. is allowed to dictate Cuban and Latino narratives and policies...to the detriment of both countries.
Does Little Havana USA contemplate recapturing Cuba during the Trump presidency...and also capturing America?
Is Mario Diaz-Balart, the son of a powerful Minister in the Batista dictatorship, ready to put the USA ON NOTICE that he is ready to leave Little Havana and Congress to be the President in Washington or...in Havana?
The Cuban Revolution that kicked the Batistianos and the Diaz-Balart family to Little Havana was known as The July 26th Movement because that was the day that Fidel Castro said it started back n 1953. So far, although Fidel Castro died at age 90 in 2016, the Revolution somehow has survived everything the U.S.-backed Batistianos have thrown at it -- including the 1961 Bay of Pigs military attack, the Embargo/Blockade that has existed from 1962 till June-2020, a record number of assassinations and/or assassination attempts, terrorist acts such as the downing of Cubana Flight 455, etc., etc.
Havana-born Counter Revolutionary zealot Ileana Ros-Lehtinen was on a long list of Little Havana extremists that the Bush dynasty put in the U. S. Congress, and Ros-Lehtinen was in Congress from 1989 till 2019. She resigned supposedly to write editorials in the Miami Herald and join a anti-Cuban Think Tank.
The Diaz-Balart brothers -- Fort Lauderdale-born Mario and Havana-born Lincoln -- have staunchly represented Little Havana, either individually or together, consecutively in the U. S. Congress since the early 1990s. They, of course, are also products of the self-serving Bush dynasty.
Along the way, even the ultra-rich Counter Revolutionary Cubans in Little Havana and Newark also dominated Democratic presidents such as Bill Clinton, not just Republican presidents such as the Bushes and Trump. When President Clinton, as shown above, signed the infamous Batistiano bible known as the Helms-Burton Act into law in 1996, those looking over Clinton's shoulders included right-winger Jesse Helms, on the far left, and a key writer of the Act -- Lincoln Diaz-Balart, shown second from the far right. But in this historic photo, the biggest guy looking so menacingly down at Clinton was and is Bob Menendez, the still incumbent U. S. Senator from Newark.
For years the U. S. government spent years investigating Menendez and then charged him with many felony counts based on alleged deeds involving Miami and the Dominican Republic. But the expensive trial resulted in a hung jury, as was expected among his peers in Newark, and...of course...Menendez was then easily re-elected to his powerful Senate seat, which he has held since 2006.
And so today -- in June of 2020 -- Menendez, the entrenched incumbent Senator from Newark, and Rubio, the entrenched incumbent Senator from Little Havana, wield inordinate anti-Cuban power in the U. S. Senate. To do so, of course, they gravitate toward chairmanships of Senate committees that will most relate to destroying Revolutionary Cuba -- such as the Foreign Relations Committee, the Western Hemisphere Affairs committee, the Intelligence Committee, etc.
If indeed Little Havana aspires to regain control of Havana and even gain control of Washington, the photo above provides a hint as to how such a prognosis has evolved. For decades, dating truly back to the 1950s, the Bush dynasty's alliance with the Little Havana Cubans has been mutually rewarding -- financially and politically. The photo above shows Jeb Bush with one of his prime Little Havana benefactors, Havana-born Al Cardonas. Jeb's father and old brother between them had two Vice Presidential stints, three presidential administrations, a crucial year {1976} as CIA Director, etc., and all were used to greatly empower and enrich the Cubans in Little Havana. So Jeb in the late 1980s arrived in Miami and, to announce his Little Havana credentials, he used the Bush name to become the Campaign Manager for Little Havana's most fervent Counter Revolutionary Cuban, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen. And after putting Ros-Lehtinen in the U. S. Congress in 1989 for three decades...followed by the Diaz-Balart brothers, etc...Jeb became a two-term governor of Florida. Of course, he had billions of dollars behind him in his 2016 presidential bid but was thwarted by...Donald Trump. To this day Jeb, his older brother and former two-term President George W. Bush, Rubio, Ros-Lehtinen, Al Cardenas, and Cardenas's wife Ana Navarra, the extreme anti-Trump CNN propagandist, are trying to wrest control of the Republican Party from the elderly Trump's hands...and hand the reins to Jeb and/or Rubio. So, study the above photo. Without the decades-old  synergy between the Bush dynasty and powerful Cubans like Al Cardenas, Little Havana in June of 2020 would not be in a position to possibly re-capture Havana while also having a chance at even capturing Washington.
