America's Murderous Cuban Embargo

And What Americans Don't Know!!
{Wednesday, July 11th, 2018}
Because she works for the London-based Reuters news agency, Sarah Marsh, unlike American journalists, can report the truth from Cuba to the rest of the world.
For the international news agency Reuters, Sarah Marsh covers the Caribbean's largest island and reports the truth -- even about Cuban plane crashes in which U. S. journalists either misuse the key facts or ignore them entirely. I'm speaking of, for example, the two Cubana Airlines crashes on Oct. 6-1976 and on May 18-2018. In 1976, as an ongoing and unchecked part of Cuban exile-CIA terrorist attacks on innocent Cubans, Cubana Flight 455 was blown into the ocean killing all 73 on board, including two dozen teenage athletes and little girls who were the children of coaches. Sarah Marsh, who knows the history of U.S.-Cuban relations, is free to tell the truth about Cubana Flight 455, which can also be easily Google-searched. On May 18-2018 a Cubana Airlines plane crashed right after take-off in Havana killing 112 people. Sarah Marsh has also told the truth about that disaster. In her latest July-2018 article about that crash, Sarah Marsh pinpointed the primary cause -- "the U. S. trade embargo against Cuba" that has existed since 1962 and stands as history's all-time longest and cruelest embargo ever imposed by a powerful nation against a weak nation.
Americans are purposely not told how the U. S. embargo of Cuba figures into such things as the deadly crash of an airplane in Havana on May 18, 2018, just as they have not been told the truth about the terrorist bombing of Cubana Flight 455 back in 1976 or the subsequent car-bombing in Miami of Emilio Milian, the top Cuban-American journalist who complained about such things. But Sarah Marsh of Reuters feels free to tell the truth about historic or topical events in the vast U.S.-Cuban conundrum.
Sarah Marsh reminds us in this month's Reuters update that it is a 16-hour bus ride from Havana to Holguin, which was the route the doomed plane was trying to take on May 18, 2018. {See the above map}. The Cuban government, Sarah reported, greatly subsidized such flights to expedite the travel between such key Cuban cities. Now those flights have been canceled and replaced by subsidized bus travel. Marlene Mendoza told Sarah that she had to wait "seven hours" in sweltering heat to get her flight ticket changed to a bus ticket, such is the urgency for Cubans to travel between the far-flung cities for family reasons or simply for business or leisure reasons.

Among the 112 victims of the May 18th-2018 plane crash in Havana were Dr. Monica Leyva Garcia and her baby daughter Alexia. Dr. Leyva was a doctor at the hospital in Holguin. Monica's husband and Alexia's father, who is also a doctor at the Holguin hospital, was driving to the Holguin airport to pick up his two precious family members when the plane crashed on the edge of Havana. You will very painfully understand the news that awaited him at the Holguin airport if you study the precious photo above.
The plane crash occurred less than a month after Miguel Diaz-Canel had taken over as Cuba's President and the island's first non-Castro leader since 1959. Shown in the center of the above photo in the white shirt and tan pants, Diaz-Canel reported from the tragic crash site on live television. A few days later he ordered all Cuban ministers to regularly go on live television and tell the people "what you are doing about their problems so they can judge whether you are actually doing it...or not." As Sarah Marsh explained, President Diaz-Canel has explained to the Cuban people why the ill-fated 39-year-old Boeing-737 airplane had been leased from a tiny Mexican company and why Cuba has trouble getting spare parts for such planes because of the U. S. embargo. In fact, as Sarah Marsh explained, Cuba is also prohibited from getting planes and parts from "even European Airbus and Brazil's Embraers" because they are afraid of the USA's international economic influence. This month -- July, 2018 -- the USA's Boeing and Brazil's Embraer signed a joint deal to produce regional jets that will seat 100-to-150 passengers...with Boeing owning 80% and Embraer 20%; such deals mean Cuba's former friends in Brazil have succumbed USA dollars to become anti-Cuba. Americans are not supposed to understand such things, just as Americans are not supposed to understand why a small Jamaican company paid the U. S. government a substantial fine because it sent a box of baby aspirin to Cuba in violation of the embargo. Of course, huge international banks have paid billions in such fines when accused by the U. S. of even doing small transactions with Cuba. While Cuba's economy has understandably been pulverized by such "legal tactics"...meaning easily passed laws in the 535-member U. S. Congress routinely dictated by a mere handful of Counter Revolutionary extremists since 1962, extremists such as Miami's JORGE MAS-CANOSA and RAFAEL DIAZ-BALART in the 1960s and such as Miami's MARCO RUBIO and MARIO DIAZ-BALART in 2018.
Sarah Marsh of Reuters this week also informs us that, "For decades Cuba got around some U. S. sanctions and purchased airplane parts it needed" but the three Bush presidencies and now the Trump presidency, acting purely at the behest of Counter Revolutionary extremists, have managed to shut those doors. Sarah reminds us that in 2013 Cuba bought six new Antonov airplanes from a joint Russian-Ukraine company but getting parts for those planes has been impossible since "Russia annexed Crimea in 2014." So, according to a journalist with the guts and ingenuity to know...Sarah Marsh...we learn that Cuba now is flying only "4" of its "16" airplanes and the only international flights are now to "Buenos Aires and Madrid." Prior to the Bush and Trump alliances with only the most extreme Counter Revolutionaries, Sarah Marsh said that "for decades" safe Cuban planes "used to fly to all parts of the world."
Cuba's new President Miguel Diaz-Canel is the island's former Education Minister and he remains very popular with everyday Cubans. He has explained to them how sorry he is that he has had to curtail flights from Havana to key destinations such as Holguin, Baracoa, and Santiago de Cuba on the other end of the island. There are 11.24 million Cubans on the island and all of them...for three generations...WELL KNOW how much they have been severely harmed by the U. S. embargo. While Americans are propagandized not to consider such things, Sarah Marsh of Reuters echoed President Diaz-Canel's words with her own words: "In the busy summer travel period in Cuba, a long line of people wait for hours in the sweltering heat outside the office of Cubana Airlines, many of them eager to visit families in the provinces. But they are not waiting to book flights anymore. Instead, they hope to get bus tickets..." As she interviewed Cubans in one of those lines, that's when Marlene Mendoza told her she had waited "seven hours in this sweltering heat" to get her plane tickets exchanged for 16-hour bus tickets. Back in the U. S. Congress, Miami stalwarts like Rubio & Diaz-Balart get away with calling Marlene's problems necessary "to hurt Castro." Such startling lies have worked in the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave since 1959, so why would Rubio, Diaz-Balart, and their ilk cease using them after it has played such a mammoth role in their economic and political fortunes in Miami and Washington?
The U. S. embargo was imposed against Cuba in 1962 and is still in effect today in 2018. TO THIS DAY propagandized {lied to} Americans are not supposed to know the reason it was imposed in 1962 and the reason it is still in effect in 2018. Declassified U. S. documents explained the reason: To starve, deprive, and make miserable the lives of Cubans on the island to induce them to rise up and overthrow their revolutionary government. This egregious scheme was imposed after numerous terrorist acts, the April of 1961 air-land-and-sea military attack at the Bay of Pigs, and countless assassination attempts had failed to recapture Cuba. Incrediblythe embargo has also failed to recapture the vulnerable but pugnacious island as a mystified world watches.
While Democratic presidents Kennedy, Carter, and Clinton made tentative efforts to end the embargo, all Republican presidents and all Batistiano-directed U. S. Congresses since the 1960s have mandated the embargo against Cuba to appease a mere handful of Cuban-American extremists. Only one President, Barack Obama, had the combination of guts, intelligence, and patriotism to sharply cut into the atrocities of the atrocious embargo. But Obama's two presidential terms were sandwiched between Batistiano-directed Bush and Trump presidencies...and only the Batistiano-directed Congress can actually end the embargo...and in flawed, money-crazed Washington that won't happen. In January of 1959 when the Batista-Mafia leaders fled the Cuban Revolution and regrouped back in Miami, they had the wealth to overwhelm South Florida economically and politically...and soon that was extended to Washington with the help of the Bush dynasty, the Tea Party, and such sycophants as Jesse Helms, Dan Burton, and Robert Torricelli in Congress who allowed extremists to write, in their names, such atrocities as Helms-Burton and Torricelli bills that to this day hurt innocent Cubans and insult democracy.  In Obama's last year as President, 2016, when he so adamantly and bravely opposed the embargo, the vote in the United Nations condemning the embargo was unanimous -- 191-to-0. It has been said that no other topic in this VERY DIVERSE world could attain such worldwide unanimity. America's image regarding the embargo is universally and accurately depicted by the Carlos LaTuff image depicted above. But another cowardly and unpatriotic generation of Americans...this one...doesn't seem to give a damn. And that's precisely where we are in July of 2018. Americans can't refute those facts but they can cowardly ignore them.
Please study the photo above that Dr. Monica Leyva Garcia posted on her Facebook page on April 8th, 2018, to proudly show off her precious baby girl Alexia. On May 18, 2018, like 110 other precious Cuban souls, Dr. Leyva and Alexia were aboard the plane bound for Holguin when it crashed on the edge of Havana. Like Monica, the husband and father was a doctor at the Holguin hospital and he was driving to the airport to reunite with them when the plane crashed. Was the U. S. embargo a prime reason for the crash? Cuba's new President seems to think so. Some 11.24 million people on the island seem to think so. And, based on her latest article this month of July-2018, the fair-minded and superb Reuters journalist Sarah Marsh seems to think so.
There is reason to believe, I believe, that the only journalist in the United States with the guts to ask Miami's U. S. Congressmen Rubio & Diaz-Balart if the embargo played a role in the May 18th-2018 Cuban plane crash was Cuban-American Emilio Milian. But Emilio is not around in 2018 to ask that question; he was car-bombed in Miami in 1976 for asking probing questions about such things as the Oct. 6-1976 terrorist bombing that killed everyone on board the child-laden Cubana Flight 455.

Trump Frightens Latin America

July 4th Revelation Is Scary!!
{Updated: Sunday, July 8th, 2018}
On July 4th, 2018, about 320 million Americans were braving heat waves on Independence Day in the USA. It was then, on the major holdiay, that they and the world learned that U. S. President, Donald Trump, has considered invading Venezuela. The world flinched, especially Cubans and Venezuelans.
Multiple reports reveal that Trump was so adamant at one particular meeting about invading Venezuela that his Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and his top National Security Adviser H. R. McMaster had to tone down Trump's dangerous rhetoric and get him on some other topic other than attacking Venezuela.
Well, since then President Trump has replaced McMaster with John Bolton as his top National Security Adviser and replaced Tillerson with his new Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. Both Bolton and Pompeo are well known as vicious anti-Cuban advocates and therefore probable anti-Venezuelan war-mongers. Once Bolton and Pompeo emerged as Trump's two main foreign policy advisers, the New York Times immediately said, "Trump has now created the most radically aggressive foreign policy team around the American president in modern times."
While the mainstream U. S. media is either too afraid or too incompetent to admit it, the revelation above frightens all of Latin America for basic reasons: {1} Latin Americans are aware that Trump's evil designs on Venezuela are at the behest of a handful of Counter Revolutionary Cuban extremists who make up ALL of Trump's top advisers related to Cuba, including #1 Security Adviser John Bolton; his Secretary of State Mike Pompeo; and his UN Representative Nikki Haley; and {2} Latin Americans, unlike Americans, are abundantly aware of historic right-wing Republicans in Washington waging wars on Latin Americans and creating renowned anti-American revolutionaries such as Fidel Castro in Cuba, Hugo Chavez in Venezuela, Danny Ortega in Nicaragua; etc., etc.
Venezuela has the world's largest known oil reserves. It is a Latin American nation that right-wing Republican administrations in Washington have targeted and coveted. But in July of 2018 as news arrives that President Trump is considering "invading Venezuela," Latin Americans are brave enough and smart enough to realize that Trump is being pressured to attack Venezuela on behalf of extremist Counter Revolutionary anti-Cuban militants who hate Venezuela not because of its oil but because of its close ties to and support of Cuba.
Venezuela's support of Cuba has become almost nil because, despite its incomparable oil wealth and its leader's continuing love of Cuba, Venezuela's drastically dire economic and political problems have left President Nicolas Madura extremely vulnerable to a domestic coup, supported strongly by rich and powerful forces in Miami and in Washington, or by -- we now learn -- from a direct military invasion ordered by U. S. President and Commander-in-Chief Donald Trump. The pretext, of course, will be to help the Venezuelan people; the real reason will be to satisfy Counter Revolutionary Cuban extremists and their counterparts who have already settled from Venezuela to Miami.
If Trump, goaded by politically and economically influential Counter Revolutionary Cubans and others, attacks Venezuela, it will spawn massive firestorms across Latin America that billions of U. S. tax dollars and millions of good people will have trouble putting out. HOWEVER, such murderous probabilities have never deterred U. S. war-mongers who feel safely and securely protected in the U. S. while other less fortunate and much younger souls are sent to fight real or proxy foreign wars.
Dwight Eisenhower -- after being the top General in the must-win World War II and then the U. S. President for eight years -- left the White House in 1961 with a dire televised warning -- his famed but unheeded Military Industrial Speech -- in which he said those profiting in the USA from wars and the threat of wars were the biggest threat to the United States, not foreign military powers. Generations of Americans have failed to heed that warning...thus, for example, powerful right-wing thugs in Eisenhower's White House in 1952 sicced the Mafia on Cuba and used the U. S. military and U. S. tax dollars as well as the ignorance and cowardice of the American people to back it up. Now in July of 2018 right-wing thugs in Trump's White House, among other self-serving enterprises, are urging an "invasion" of massively troubled but oil-rich Venezuela. And once again we can expect this generation of Americans not to give a damn, and my seldom-used vulgarity was merely used to emphasize the point.
Bold headlines in 1961 told Americans all about out-going President Dwight Eisenhower's sincere and accurate warning. Yet, from that day till this day, three of America's all-time most cowardly and unpatriotic generations have ignored it. That plays directly into the hands of war-mongering, right-wing thugs, such as those who goaded the U. S. to attack Cuba at the Bay of Pigs in April of 1961 and who are now goading the U. S. to attack..."invade"...Venezuela in July of 2018.
For decades anti-Cuban propagandists-lobbyists, such as Frank Calzon, have grown very powerful and very rich behind-the-scenes influencing Republican presidents and Republicans in Congress to attack, starve, embargo, blockade, and otherwise assault Cuba...and, of course, assail people and nations friendly to Cuba or people and nations merely seeking decency for totally innocent Cubans. Calzon and two dozen others like him a couple of weeks ago fired off a long letter demanding that President Trump follow their ten stated demands-orders to finish destroying post-Castro Cuba, which now has a new President -- former Education Minister Miguel Diaz-Canel. Venezuela too was very implicitly mentioned  in that long, ANTI-CUBAN letter to Trump. The intimidated mainstream U. S. media was too scared to publish or even mention that very scary letter, but you can Google-search online to read it and I believe democracy-lovers should do so if they care about America.
But far beyond the anti-Cuba/anti-Venezuela influences on Trump...such as Calzon, Bolton, Pompeo, Noriega, and U. S. Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart of Miami, who along with his 3 brothers are the sons of a former key Batista Minister...are the two foxes in Trump's hen-house. The foxes I'm referencing are Nikki Haley and her beloved Senator Marco Rubio from Miami. Haley is Trump's high-profile Ambassador to the United Nations; Rubio, as all in Washington political circles well know, is Trump's newly designated Cuban dictator. Haley & Rubio both hate Trump and are determined to replace him in the White House and as the leader of the Republican Party.
Back in 2016 during the Republican presidential campaign, when Nikki Haley was the Governor of South Carolina and wildly campaigning for Rubio against Trump, Trump fired off massive slams against Haley such as the Tweet above, along with massive denunciations of Rubio, such as calling Rubio "Little Marco" and worse. But, needing Rubio's congressional support and to placate anti-Cuban extremists in Miami, Trump designated Rubio his Cuban dictator and, to appease right-wing Republicans, Trump appointed Nikki Haley as his high-profile United Nations Representative.
At the UN, as feared, it appears to many that Nikki Haley is "Israel's Ambassador to the UN" -- not America's. That reflects Nikki Haley's massive...some say unholy...alliance with Marco Rubio, not with her upfront boss, President Donald Trump.
Trump himself has famously accused Senator Marco Rubio of being under the "total control" of controversial Israeli-Jewish billionaires. In fact, so has Fabiola Santiago, the Cuban-born top columnist and Editorial Chief at Rubio's hometown newspaper, the Miami Herald that has called Rubio "a hypocrite."
Meanwhile, it is easy for Trump, Santiago, and others to label Senator Rubio politically and economically more aligned with Israel than he is to America, including Cuban-Americans in his hometown of Miami. Yet, flush with massive financial-support, Rubio was a presidential contender in 2016 and will be again in 2020...or earlier if Trump is impeached by the left-wing U. S. media and, I believe, by Trump's two dangerous foxes -- Rubio and Haley -- in Trump's own hen-house.
It is clear...to some...that Trump doesn't know a fox when she is standing right beside him. And he thus unwisely put her in his own hen-house and if Trump thinks the fox is not hoping to push him aside to make way for Rubio and herself, than Trump is even more politically naive than we imagined.
All of which plays directly into the new revelation in this first week of July-2018 that President Trump, the omnipotent Commander-in-Chief, wants "to invade Venezuela." If he does so, it will be because of pressure from Counter Revolutionary anti-Cuban  zealots. Your mainstream U. S. media probably doesn't have the guts to tell you that, but nevertheless it is true.

Havana, Miami, and Little Havana

January-1959 to July-2018!!
{Updated for: Wednesday, July 4th, 2018}
Before I resume this Cubaninsider essay, permit me to point out that Americans who are not familiar with Ann Louise Bardach probably don't know anything about modern U.S.-Cuban relations other than the self-serving propaganda espoused, generally with the consent of the U. S. government and the U. S. media, by the most visceral remnants from the Batista-Mafia dictatorship that was overthrown by the Cuban Revolution in 1959 only to have its leaders flee to and permanently reconstitute their rule on U. S. soil. It's indeed a fascinating story and it is best told in the articles, essays, speeches, and books by Ann Louise Bardach. That's her above resting against a marker that designates the city of Baracoa in Cuba as the first city in the Americas. Indeed, in 1492 Christopher Columbus, in his diary, famously called the area that soon became Baracoa "the most beautiful land these eyes have yet seen." But now after that brief peek back into early Americana history...back to Ann Louise Bardach.
If you do not want to be propagandized by the latest generation of Counter Revolutionary Cuban-Americans, I suggest you purchase and study...even memorize...Ann Louise Bardach's great book "Cuba Confidential: Love and Vengeance in Miami and Havana." It is, I believe, the best way to start to fathom U.S.-Cuban relations since the 1950s.
Ann Louise Bardach followed up "Cuba Confidential" with such gems as "WITHOUT FIDEL: A Death Foretold in Miami, Havana, and Washington." When it comes to U.S.-Cuba relations, no one knows more about Fidel, Miami, Havana, and Washington than Ann Louise Bardach. So let me repeat: If you are not familiar with Ann Louise Bardach, then you actually know basically NOTHING about U.S.-Cuban relations since the 1950s...except the self-serving propaganda from Counter Revolutionary extremists.
Not only have I been to Miami, Havana, and Washington, I can prove I met Fidel in Havana at his home in 2004 when the anti-Fidel, counter-revolutionary George W. Bush administration gave me permission to "legally" visit Cuba to research Cuba's greatest revolutionary heroine, Celia Sanchez. But beyond that and more importantly...as with the book above...I have read and studied just about every word Ann Louise Bardach has written or uttered about U.S.-Cuban relations since the 1950s. And for that reason, I feel capable of now continuing with this latest Cubaninsider insight.
***********************
From January of 1959 -- when the Cuban Revolution drove the leaders of the Batista-Mafia dictatorship to their new headquarters in Miami -- until today, in July of 2018, a hard-line core of Cubans based in Miami's Little Havana neighborhood have been allowed to dictate almost all of America's Cuban narratives and Cuban policies. While that is neither healthy nor politically correct to say out in the open in the U. S. to this day, it nevertheless is true.
And, yes, America's greatest and bravest journalists and authors -- Ann Louise Bardach, Julia E. Sweig, T. J. English, Peter Kornbluh, James Bamford, crime reporter/author Edna Buchanan, columnist/author Carl Hiassen, etc., etc. -- have written billions of truthful words about the Miami Mafia brutally and undemocratically ruling that important American city since the Batista-Mafia leaders in Havana resurfaced quickly in Miami in 1959. Furthermore, a handful of rich and powerful Cubans -- with the aid of sycophants such as the Bush dynasty, the Tea Party, etc. -- have extended their dictation of America's Cuban policies to the U. S. Congress and to all six Republican White Houses in Washington since the 1950s. Often conveniently overlooked via intimidation and propaganda is the fact that the Batista-Mafia leaders, when they arrived in Miami, had the financial means to overwhelm the city economically and politically. That explains to this day that a steady stream of Cuban-American extremists from Miami are the only ones that can be elected to the U. S. Congress from that area, leaving out candidates from the majority of Cuban-Americans, who happen to be moderates and very decent Americans. Especially after the car-bombing in Miami of the top Cuban-American newsman, Emilio Milian, after he complained about the murders of innocent Cubans by unchecked Miami Mafia/Cuban American terrorists, the mainstream U. S. media has, for the most part, pusillanimously promoted only Miami Mafia agendas.
But incredibly, now in July of 2018, the best, bravest, and fairest reporting on Cuban issues is in the city of Miami and not from the intimidated and politically correct mainstream media across the USA. Permit me to explain.
While the mainstream U. S. media promotes only Little Havana distortions about Cuba from the likes of Senator Marco Rubio, a leading television station in Miami has an excellent broadcast journalist, Hatzel Vela, stationed in Cuba. He regularly files fair reports back to Havana...and the Cuban government allows him to file anti-Cuban stories if he thinks they are warranted.
Starting from his headquarters in Havana, Hatzel Velo does a superb job of telling Cuba's story for his station -- WPLG-ABC-10 in Miami. Whether the news is good, bad, or in-between, Hatzel can report back to Miami truths that often sharply contradict what Rubio and the mainstream U. S. media present as purely anti-Cuban propaganda that mitigates against what the U. S. democracy once stood for -- meaning prior to 1959.
Whether shining a light on Cuban positives or taking to the dark streets and reporting on Cuban negatives, Hatzel Velo has the freedom in Cuba to report the facts back to Miami on Miami's best television station while the U. S. networks wouldn't dare report on any Cuban issue without presenting the one-sided views of Counter Revolutionary Cubans like Rubio. Americans, meanwhile, have been programmed since 1959 to believe self-serving Miami politicians like Rubio as opposed to excellent Miami journalists such as the car-bombed Emilio Milian and, of course, now the brave and excellent Miami journalist stationed in Cuba, Hatzel Velo.
The brave voice of Cuban-American newsman Emilio Milian, not unexpectedly, was silenced by a car-bomb in 1976 after he spoke out against the unchecked murders of innocent Cubans by Cuban-American extremists. But in July of 2018 in Miami, if not in the U. S. as a whole, extremely high-profile Cuban-American journalists can criticize even the most extreme Counter Revolutionary Cuban-Americans who have been literally chomping at the bit since 1959 to destroy Revolutionary Cuba. It, amazingly, hasn't happened...not yet...although the Counter Revolutionary extremists have hidden behind the skirts of the Superpower United States government and also benefited from the apathy of two generations of the least patriotic Americans.
But now even the Miami Herald, led by journalist and Editorial chief Fabiola Santiago, can be depended on for fair journalism regarding Cuba. Born in Cuba and furiously anti-Castro, Ms. Santiago became a star reporter for the Miami Herald in 1980 and now is its ace columnist and Editorial Chief. Recently she has called Rubio a "hypocrite" for using his Little Havana-based power in the U. S. Senate to feather his own nests while punishing innocent Cubans on the island and hurting most Cuban-Americans in Miami. Because of Rubio and his ilk, Ms. Santiago also points out that extremists Cuban-Americans in Miami are taking advantage of another Batistiano-loving Republican President, Trump, to severely target Cuba even while Trump plays footsie with dangerous dictators.
For example, while tightening the screws on Cuba, President Trump's new-found buddy Kim Jong Un, the notorious North Korean dictator, is being elevated by Trump on the international stage. No wonder Jong Un is smiling above.
The Kim Jong Un coziness with President Trump presented this nice handshake as well as co-equal, side-by-side American and North Korean flags. Sure, Cuba is no threat to the U. S. and the U. S. is afraid of North Korea's nuclear weapons. And no overthrown Korean dictatorship ever resurfaced as an economic and political power on U. S. soil. But even the most powerful journalist in Miami, who happens to be Cuban-born, wonders aloud why the Trump-Rubio administration can get away with cozying up to Kim Jong Un in North Korea while trying to starve innocent Cubans and overthrow their new leader, Miguel Diaz-Canel.
Miami's top journalist -- Cuba-born Fabiola Santiago, the key reporter-columnist-author at the Miami Herald since 1980 and now the Editorial Chief -- has penned scathing articles entitled: "President Trump Should Engage Cuba's New President, Not Leave Policy to Rubio" and "The Trump-Rubio Politics of Hypocrisy: Cuba, No Deal; North Korea?" Outside of Miami, the mainstream U. S. media does not have the courage to produce such headlines...calling Rubio a "hypocrite" for feathering his own nests by trying to starve innocent Cubans. BUT the top journalist at Rubio's hometown newspaper -- Cuban-born Fabiola Santiago -- DOES have the courage to do so.
Cuba's "new President" -- as referenced by Fabiola Santiago -- is Miguel Diaz-Canel who was born after the Revolutionary victory and is the island's former Education Minister. President Diaz-Canel is popular with everyday Cubans across the island and they hope he can overcome the U.S. embargo and Cuban bureaucracy to improve their economic conditions. He has made a good start by, for example, ordering his Ministers to report regularly on Cuban television to explain how they are handling the "peoples' problems" so they can judge for themselves "if progress is being made."
With President Diaz-Canel's obvious popularity with the Cuban people, most Cuban-Americans in Miami, such as the city's top journalist Fabiola Santiagoare embarrassed that America will sweetly embrace some of the world's most wicked leaders but doesn't have either the decency or the guts, during another Batistiano-directed Republican administration, to even talk with Cuba's new President WHOM MIAMI'S FABIOLA SANTIAGO RECENTLY SUGGESTED WAS A BETTER PERSON THAN NORTH KOREA'S KIM JONG UN and maybe even A BETTER PERSON THAN MIAMI'S OWN "hypocrite" IN THE U. S. SENATE, Marco Rubio.
But guess who is President Trump's newly designated Cuban dictator? ANSWER: The man Trump derisively called "Little Marco" in 2016 when they were both competing in the Republican presidential primary...and the man highly respected journalist Ken Silverstein calls "head and shoulders above everyone else when it comes to corruption and chicanery." And, oh yes...the man fellow Cuban-American Fabiola Santiago, the top journalist in his hometown of Miami, calls a "hypocrite." {And that indeed is saying quite a lot about Rubio considering that YET ANOTHER Counter Revolutionary Cuban-American incumbent in the U. S. Senate, Bob Menendez, is hanging on to his easy seat only after a Hung Jury Verdict saved him after the U. S. government spent 3 expensive years investigating Menendez on massive corruption charges and then spending 3 more expensive months in 2017 in a Federal Court trying desperately to convict him, only to be stymied by the hung jury}. But most of all, Rubio today is the best example of why the latest Republican president, Trump, at the moment loves North Korea's Kim Jung Un and wants to destroy Cuba's new President, Miguel Diaz-Canel. And the explanation of that prime example is this: Cuba is the only nation that overthrew a U.S.-backed dictatorship and then had the fleeing leaders of that dictatorship resurface permanently, prominently, and lucratively on United States soil.
Yes. The Cuban Revolution and the beloved and vilified legacy left behind by the late Fidel Castro both say even more about the United States than they say about Cuba. After all, the United States is the world Superpower and Cuba is an island.
And by the way:
If you want to read a gripping, page-turning best-seller this summer, T. J. English might be the author you should turn to.
The T. J. English classic is "HAVANA NOCTURNE: How The Mob Owned Cuba...And Then Lost It To The Revolution." And after explaining "HOW" the Mafia lost Cuba to the Revolution in 1959, T. J. English also astutely explores some of the darkest chapters in America's history as the "MOB" fled to Miami. They tolerated Miami as a sanctuary but believed the U. S. government would surely  help them recapture Cuba within weeks...a few month at the most!! And, like in Havana, the "MOB" brutally and financially flourished in Miami!! But weeks turned into months...and then years AND THEN DECADES!! So, the "MOB" -- still waiting after 6+ decades for the USA to recapture Cuba for them -- long-ago re-named their new capital city "Little Havana." Located in the heart of Miami, Little Havana to this day is where Republican presidential candidates, like Trump, visit to genuflect and pay homage as they gain the sustenance they believe will put them in the White House...and keep them there for 8 years. T. J. English in "Havana Nocturne" expertly tells that utterly fascinating, on-going...and tragic...story.
